The user plants roots in the ground which restores 1/16th of its max HP each turn. It prevents the user from escaping or switching out, except if the user is Ghost-type or uses U-turn, Volt Switch, or Baton Pass. Using Ingrain also makes the user susceptible to Ground-type moves, Spikes, Toxic Spikes, and Arena Trap, even if it is Flying-type or has Levitate. Also prevents the user from going airborn through the effects of Magnet Rise or Telekinesis. The effects of Ingrain can be Baton Passed.
