After the battle, you are free to explore Malie City. In the Ferry Terminal you can take the ferry back to Heahea City or Aether Paradise. Walk west to find a Pokémon Center. The clerk on the right at the Poké Mart sells the following TM's:
Further west you meet Lillie, who won't let you walk further until you've visited Professor Kukui in Malie Garden. If it's daytime, grab the Zygarde Cell in front of the two trucks west of the Malie Garden entrance. Now head north to the garden, where you'll meet Hau again. He tells you to walk around the edges of the garden to look for a tea house.
It's useful to know that riding Pokémon (except Charizard) is not allowed in the garden. Start east of Hau, where you'll soon meet Sightseer Mitch, who wants to battle. Next to Mitch is a grass patch filled with wild Pokémon. At the end of the path there's a Grassy Seed (can only be used once. Raises the holder's Defense upon activation of Grassy Terrain).

In the water is a fishing spot, where you can fish for the wild Pokémon. You can't walk any further here, so walk back and continue west of Hau. After the first patch of grass, you can battle Preschooler Ailey. At the base of the tree north of Ailey you can find a hidden Rare Bone. On the west, behind the grass, there's a Luxury Ball.

Continue north and then east over the bridge. Keep following the path until you see the tea house, with Kukui sitting on the terrace. However, before approaching him let's finish exploring the garden. On the northwest part of the terrace you can pick up a Rage Candy Bar. Further north is a bubbling spot for fishing.
Go over the bridge on the west to battle Sightseer Akali. Walk through the grass patches next to her to find a Zygarde Cell at the end. Walk back over the bridges, then go north of the tea house to find a Big Mushroom at the end of the grass patch.
Now walk back south to the tea house and talk to Kukui. He tells you that the next trial is on Mount Hokulani and that you can get there by bus, from the bus stop on Route 10. Kukui will be waiting for you there. Hau tells you there's an observatory at Hokulani too, and then runs off to the local Malasada shop. Exit the garden via the bridge on the south to end up back in Malie City.
Back in Malie City, Lillie is still there and now asks for your help searching for a book in the Malie Library. When she leaves for the library, you're approached by a man called 'Professor' by your Rotom Dex. He introduces himself as Samson Oak, a Pokémon researcher who's researching the regional variants of Pokémon. He's off to the library too and tells you that you can visit him there.
Continue west to visit the local Malasada shop. The left attendant sells Spicy and Bitter Malasada (both can be fed to a Pokémon to increase its Affection) for 200P each. The right attendant sells Big Malasada (used to heal all status conditions of a Pokémon) for 350P.
On the west side of town you can go south to Route 10 or west to Route 11. However, you are stopped from going any further along those routes for the time being. East of the entrance to Route 10 is a restaurant, where you can buy Z-Kaiseki meals for 4,000P each. After each meal, your receive 4 Heart Scales.
North of the restaurant is a salon, where you can change your hair again. For new clothing, there's an apparel shop east of the salon. In the shop, there's a Collector on the left who wants you to register Togedemaru in your Pokédex. This Pokémon can be found at the Power Plant on Route 12. The Collector will reward you 10,000P when you show him its Pokédex entry.
Keep walking northeast to end up at the library, where you meet Lillie once again. A Mudsdale runs towards you, belonging to Hapu, whom you've met earlier on Akala Island. After talking with Hapu, she leaves again, and you enter the library with Lillie.
Inside the library Lillie tells you she's looking for a very old book on old myths and legends. She then runs off to search for it, leaving you free to explore on your own. Talk to the female sightseer at the table to receive TM76 (Fly). In the northwest corner you can find Samson Oak again, who wants you to show him an Alolan Persian. If you have one in your party, he will give you a Love Ball.
Going upstairs, you'll find Lillie still looking for the book. A girl walks up to her and shows her that the book she's looking for is on the table. After reading the book and talking with the girl for a while, Lillie tells you to go to Route 10 to continue your island challenge. Before going there, let's explore the area north of Malie City.
Walk north from the library and you'll end up in the Outer Cape of Malie City. In the patches of grass here you can find more wild Pokémon. The first Trainer you meet is Janitor Melvin. At the end of the grass on the west is an Antidote, and you can find a Nugget over the hill, behind Janitor Melvin.
Approach the people in front of the Recycling Plant to let them explain how they collect garbage and let Grimer and Muk eat it. The boss of the plant, Janitor Shawn, then wants to battle you. After you have defeated him, he wants you to battle his son: Ace Trainer Chase. After you have defeated Chase, Shawn is proud of his son for trying and makes him head of the plant. He thanks you by giving you a Twisted Spoon.
Now walk to the east and talk to the man in the red shirt in front of the building. His name is Gester and he is the choreographer of battle styles. A battle style is the way you throw a Poké Ball in battle. Gester wants you to be his successor and teaches you the elegant pose as a start. You have to battle certain trainers to learn more styles from Gester.
If you have battled Ilima (the second time), Mallow (only in Pokémon Moon), Kiawe (only in Pokémon Sun), and Lana along the way, Gester will teach you the following styles:
You can talk to Gester again to change your Battle Style or to get a hint about who to battle for a certain style. When you've battled someone and see the statement: "The way [character] looked in battle lingers in your mind...", you can go back to Gester to learn a new battle style.
In the northeast corner of the area you'll find Samson Oak again, who will give you a Friend Ball. On the west, behind the building, there's an X Speed. If it's daytime, you'll find a Zygarde Cell on the south side of the truck in this area.
That's all you can do in Malie City for now, so go all the way south to continue your journey on Route 10.
